Don’t Move. Improve!

So, you’ve reached the point where you’ve outgrown your starter home. Or perhaps you’ve outgrown your dream home, or simply wish you would have built or bought bigger.

You love your house, neighbours, and neighbourhood, but you feel like you need to sell.

You don’t have to. Don’t move. Improve!

One option you have is the Laneway House, the other option is an addition.

Instead of worrying about your home sitting on the market longer than you want, paying realtor fees, packing and unpacking, hiring movers, and reporting a new address at your bank, work, and everywhere else, you could simply build an addition on your home.

This way you get more space, without the hassle of moving. At least that’s what these clients of ours did.

Twin Home Addition in Lethbridge

By building this twin addition in their home they were able to add much more living space, while also creating more privacy in their backyard.

They approached the addition as an opportunity to give the existing residence a facelift and make it a little more energy-efficient at the same time.

They created a new master bedroom for themselves that is now filled with natural light.

Get Creative: Classic + Modern

Building an addition on your home also gives you the chance to get creative. It gives you the chance to make your home truly yours.

You have the option to match your addition to the style of the home, or you can combine different styles. Have an old character home, but are into the modern look? Build a modern addition and you’ll have a truly unique home.

This project by Arch11 in Denver, Colorado is a great example of how a charming, historic home can be paired with a modern touch for a more comfortable and energy-efficient home.

If your home is already built to its minimum setbacks, and you don’t want to encroach on your yard, consider building up with a second or even third story extension.

Live More Comfortably

Depending on how old your home is, it may not be very energy-efficient or comfortable to live in. You may have drafts through your walls and windows, and your heating bill is probably not something you welcome every month.

By building a Green addition and making some improvements in the existing residence, you can have more space, and make the home much more comfortable to live in. And when it’s all said and done, you can even enjoy lower utility bills.

If you have questions about how big you can add, where on the house you can add, or what other restrictions might exist, let us help you figure it out. We’re here to take on the stress so you don’t have to.
